Dominique Betts
Dominique is a multidisciplinary artist based in the Northwest. She has a vast array of experience in theatre, including directing, acting, choreography, intimacy direction, private coaching, and general tomfoolery. Primarily known for her direction, Dominique currently serves as the artistic director of Bright Comet Theatre. She believes the best, most authentic art can only grow from an environment founded in support; her top priority in any artistic space is establishing feelings of safety, security, and freedom for other collaborators. We are people first, then artists. When we honor and nurture our storytellers, it leads to raw creativity meant to be celebrated.
Dominique has years of teaching experience, leading classes in musical theatre, core voice, and core drama at Christian Youth Theatre. She also served as a counselor and later Camp Director for CYT Summer Camps. In addition to teaching, Dominique similarly has a background as a Private Audition Coach.
Her career as director began at the Spokane Civic Theatre, assistant directing many productions including Cactus Flowers, Constellations, Follies, This is Our Youth, The Crucible, and Cabaret. She marked her solo directorial debut with Cutting Edge Beauty for the Playwright’s Forum Festival, along with productions of the Music Man and Into the Woods with local Children’s theatre.
In 2022, Dominique co-founded Bright Comet Theatre, a theatre company dedicated to growth centered projects highlighting underrepresented artists. At BCT, artists have the opportunity to seek out unique works and roles without fear of elitism or disrespect. During their fledgling season, Bright Comet Theatre received a Spokane Arts Grant and was nominated for a Spokane Arts award in Inclusion. She looks forward to future collaborations, especially the chance to revel in healthy creativity.
